Crying in The Curb

pg 3

Hot oat milk mocha AND an iced oat milk pandan latte from The Curb

The Curb in Kaimuki is one of my favorite cafes on island. When you first walk in, it’s very aesthetically pleasing, but the more you look around, you notice the cute little pictures and notes they have up that just give it a little more character/ homey feel. I’m sitting at the counter right now and on the wall in front of me are just pictures of memes and drawings of some kind of inside jokes I’m sure. My go to drink here is the Pandan Latte. Whoever invented pandan (da Earth) thankkkk youuuuuuu I love you!! I could drink this damn drink everyday! I also love their mochas. An iced oat milk mocha is always gonna do it for me. As long as it is not made with cacao, it’s just too bitter that way. Give me da milk chocolate.

One of my good friends, Aiden, works here now. We met at 9bar and worked there together for a while until it unfortunately closed. Our first day of working together was literally so crazy because we just kept talking and realizing how much we have in common. It was so special to me because there is this one podcast I listen to called Emergency Intercom that I love with my whole heart, and Aiden was literally wearing their merch shirt and I had their phone case and we were like oh em GEEE!! Mind you, this podcast is not super well known so finding other people that know about it and all the lore is RARE, especially on dis small island. It was a funny because I didn’t realize his shirt at first until he pointed at my phone case and asked “is that your phone?!?!” and I said “yes?!?!?!” and he pointed at his shirt and my mouth dropped to the damn floor girl! I was like oh I love this cutie little pride month boy already. As we continued to just talk all shift we learned that our birthdays are 1 day apart, we both love rock climbing, pottery, coffee, tequila, and drew’s psyop corner. Why were our shifts like way too much fun? I’m literally tearing up at the thought of all the bullshit we would do. Stop I’m crying in The Curb. On the last day of 9bar, Aiden and I worked together and it was so insanely busy all day. It makes me anxious thinking about that damn day. We took a shot of tequila at 8am to start, girl bye that was the best. We saw all our fave regulars. Beennnn! Love messing with him. He brought us seltzers, like thank you Benihana boots bye. When the shift ended and the party started, we drank and drank and when Tracey made a speech Aiden and I cried in each others arms and girl I do not cry around people that was crazy. I’m a little embarrassed, but I am glad we had each other in that moment. Who would’ve known serving coffee at a small shop in Honolulu would gift me something so special.

Aiden and I on the last day of 9bar

The first time I ever came to The Curb was with my friend Carson. We used to work together at Bean About Town a few years ago and we would go get coffee all the time together. t’s crazy to think that I never knew about The Curb until like 2024 ish. Before that I was going to Kai Coffee on Kapahulu, Bean on Waialae, and surprisingly Coffee Talk. Carson actually showed me almost all of the spots I go to now and helped me discover what good coffee tastes like. My absolute favorite spot he took me to was Try Coffee in Ward. He also showed me 9Bar! Thank you, Carson. Love, miss, and appreciate you!

I finished my latte and now I’m a little anxious because I haven’t been drinking my coffees this fast recently, but dis one was just too good. I gotta go girl I’m in sweats and a hoodie and I’m realizing I need to start dressing to impress a little bit more. Everyone is always so cute and trendy here. Oopsie.
